Atchison historic black business district
Our Mission
- 1. To preserve the only remaining buildings of a once prosperous all black business district in the City of Atchison
- 2. Provide a space as a business incubator in an effort to revitalize the area.
- 3. Develop a location to house a black history museum.
- 4. Increase the awareness of the contributions of the black community to the development of the Atchison community.
- 5. Increase the level of pride in the Atchison community that crosses all ethnic, religious and cultural boundaries.
Demo Day
The Atchison County Historical Society began work November 9th, on the Future Historic Black Business District Museum building. This 1920 structure is located in the 1100 block of N 7th Street by LFM Park. In conjunction with the building clean-up,the Black Business District fundraising team held a bake sale. The group recently took possession of the three structures and is dedicated to preserving Atchison's rich cultural history.
